Donald Trump lies. People who work for Trump lie. When Trump doesn’t like the media focusing on something negative about him or his administration he calls it “fake news”. Thus the only way to PROVE that Trump lied would be to have a recording that confirms what was said. The catch 22 is that recording anything said in the Oval Office is strictly prohibited for national security reasons.
Thus if you assert that Trump lies, and you have tapes proving that Trump lies which were made in the Oval Office, then you have to admit you breached National Security rules to make the recording.
Omarosa Newman, a formerApprentice contestant, who was later appointed a White House aide, made just such a recording and played it on the Today show. Predictably, Donald Trump went on the attack as soon as he learned that a tape had been made. Trump said in the tape:
“Omarosa? Omarosa what’s going on? I just saw on the news that you’re thinking about leaving? What happened?”
“General Kelly came to me and said that you guys wanted me to leave.”
“Nobody even told me about it,” Trump replies.
Manigault Newman then says, “Wow,” before Trump reiterates his shock.
“You know they run a big operation, but I didn’t know it,” Trump is heard saying on the tape. “I didn’t know that. Goddamn it. I don’t love you leaving at all.”
Manigault Newman, in an interview later Monday on MSNBC’s “Velshi & Ruhle,” said she “absolutely” had more tapes in her possession but hadn’t decided yet whether she would release them publicly.
Trump, for his part, responded to Manigault Newman’s latest claims in a trio of tweets after the “Today” show, ripping her as “wacky” and “vicious but not smart” and saying “people in the White House hated her.”
He called her “nasty,” claimed she “constantly” missed work and said Kelly had told him she was a “loser” and “nothing but problems.”
“She never made it, never will,” he said.
Trump also said, “While I know it’s ‘not presidential’ to take on a lowlife like Omarosa, and while I would rather not be doing so, this is a modern day form of communication.”
Earlier on Monday, in a contentious interview on “Today,” after the audio recording was played, Manigault Newman accused Trump of lying to the American people and said he “doesn’t even know what’s happening in his White House.”
“General Kelly, John Kelly is running this White House and Donald Trump has no clue what’s going on,” she said. “He’s being puppeted, and that’s very dangerous for this nation.”
On Monday, she said there were “multiple tapes” but that the one she had described previously was an audio tape that was “about three minutes” long.
On it, Trump “was talking about some African-Americans in the production during the course of ‘The Apprentice.'”
NBC News and other outlets reported at the time that Manigault Newman had been escorted out of the White House after she tried to enter the presidential residence in response to hearing she’d been fired.
The White House has slammed Manigault Newman in recent days as a “disgruntled” former employee.
“Instead of telling the truth about all the good President Trump and his administration are doing to make America safe and prosperous, this book is riddled with lies and false accusations,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement Friday. “It’s sad that a disgruntled former White House employee is trying to profit off these false attacks, and even worse that the media would now give her a platform, after not taking her seriously when she had only positive things to say about the President during her time in the administration,” she added.
It’s a sad day for America when the only way to prove that Trump is a liar is to violate national security rules. It is a sad day for America when the criteria for an appointment in the White House is whether you’ve appeared on television. It’s a sad day for America when our President lauds people who support him, and personally attacks anyone who disagrees with him.
