This dog is having a nightmare, but he woke up and realized it was just a dream. Donald Trump wishes he could wake up and find that he is dreaming too.
Michael Cohen has been introduced to thepublic as Donald Trump’s attorney. He has been called the “fixer”. In thepast the reports and interviews of Michael Cohen indicated that he would take a bullet for Trump.
For months we have suspected that Cohen wouldn’t actually take a bullet for Trump. Many speculated that Cohen’s true loyalty was to his family and not to Trump. It now appears that Cohen has become Trump’s worst nightmare. Here a just a few of the facts that likely keep Trump awake at night:
- Cohen had an e-mail exchange between him and Felix Sater, a real-estate broker with ties to the Kremlin who worked with the Trump Organization, in 2015. They discussed the possibility of a Trump Tower project in Moscow. Sater, the e-mails showed, suggested that the plans could be built with the help of the Russian government, and that it could aid in Trump’s election bid. “Our boy can become president of the USA and we can engineer it,” Sater wrote as part of the exchange, according to the reports. “I will get all of Putins team to buy in on this, I will manage this process.”
2. Cohen became executive vice president of the Trump Organization and special counsel to Trump, making him one of the highest-ranking employees without a shared last name. Thus just because Cohen is an attorney, Trump can’t claim attorney/client privledge unless Cohen was providing legal advice. Certainly as an attorney Cohen is likely much more aware of potential criminal exposure than Trump, and could be predicted to be more careful about protecting himself than the Donald.
3. Cohen has now given an interview to ABC confirming that his real loyalty is to his family and not to Trump.
4. Cohen has recently retained Guy Petrillo, a highly regarded former federal prosecutor who once led the criminal division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan — the very same office currently conducting the criminal investigation of Cohen. Petrillo is expected to take over as Cohen’s lead counsel in the coming days. And Cohen makes clear that his decision about whether to cooperate will be based not on any previous loyalty to Trump — but on Petrillo’s legal advice.
Once Petrillo fully assumes his role, a joint defense agreement Cohen shared with the president, which allowed their lawyers to share information and documents with each other, will come to an end, ABC News has learned. It seems that the choice of Cohen of Petrillo is a clear indication that Cohen is about to cut a deal with the prosecutor’s office. What better attorney to ensure the best deal for Cohen than the former head of the federal prosecutor’s office?
When asked about how he might respond if the president should come after Cohen, Mr. Cohen said:
“I will not be a punching bag as part of anyone’s defense strategy,” he said emphatically. “I am not a villain of this story, and I will not allow others to try to depict me that way.”
During the interview, Cohen did separate himself from President Trump -– starting with the president’s criticism of how the government has conducted its investigation.
“I don’t agree with those who demonize or vilify the FBI. I respect the FBI as an institution, as well as their agents,” Cohen told me. “When they searched my hotel room and my home, it was obviously upsetting to me and my family. Nonetheless, the agents were respectful, courteous and professional. I thanked them for their service and as they left, we shook hands.”
Cohen also refused to criticize the Mueller investigation.
“I don’t like the term witch hunt,” he said, adding that he condemned Russia for interfering in the 2016 election.
“As an American, I repudiate Russia’s or any other foreign government’s attempt to interfere or meddle in our democratic process, and I would call on all Americans to do the same.”
Cohen criticized the members of the Trump campaign who participated in that now infamous Trump Tower meeting in June of 2016 with several Russians.
Trump is reported to sleep only 4-5 hours per night. Maybe it is the result of nightmares.
