This was the statement Donald Trump gave after his trip to China declaring that China would not accept a “freeze for freeze” arrangement between the U.S. and North Korea. Trump declared that China, and he had agreed that China would reject such a notion. China would demand de-nuclerazation rather than a freeze from North Korea.
Yet today, the Chinese President Xi Jinping, announced his position which was completely the opposite.
At every turn during his trip, Trump insisted that the US’s goal was North Korea’s denuclearization. He stressed the “grave threat” the rogue nuclear nation posed to millions in the region around the world. The term “freeze for freeze” is an exchange of a freeze in North Korea’s nuclear program in exchange for a freeze in the U.S.’s military drills with South Korea.
But now, China seems to have rejected the idea of denuclearization, and instead wants the US to settle for a freeze in North Korea’s nuclear program in exchange for a freeze in the US’s military drills with South Korea.
China does maintain that the “freeze for freeze” solution is the best solution to the escalating problem with North Korea.
The return to the old stalemate between China and the US undercuts the progress that Trump hailed after returning from his Asia trip.
It appears that one of three things must be true. Either (1) China is now guilty of creating “fake news”. (2) China must be filled with Democrats. or (3) China can’t be trusted any more than the media.
