A person running for the highest office in the land has to be over the age of 35, and be a natural born citizen. The constitution has no requirement that the person running be educated, sensitive, use good judgment, or even be mentally competent to serve. Donald Trump has served as an example that the constitution needs to be modified to require that any person running for President have the common decency not to insult the widow of a fallen soldier.
Myeshia Johnson, the widow of U.S. Army Sgt. La David Johnson, has spoken out to answer questions about the call she received from Donald Trump on the way to receive the body of her husband at Dover. Sgt. Johnson was killed in Niger earlier this month. George Stephanopoulos
interviewed Ms. Johnson on “Good Morning America.” Ms. Johnson explained that she was “very angry” about President Donald Trump‘s condolence phone call and upset because she says he struggled to “remember my husband’s name.” She also confirmed that Trump said that “he knew what he signed up for.”
Trump’s comments were bad enough. However even if the President believed that Ms. Johnson’s account of the conversation was incorrect, who in their right mind would attack a grieving widow? Only Trump would do that. Donald Trump wrote on Twitter:
“I had a very respectful conversation with the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, and spoke his name from beginning, without hesitation!”
Instead of attacking the widow’s account, even if it was incorrect, Trump should simply have apologized, saying if I caused her more discomfort I am truly sorry. However Donald Trump is incapable of saying he’s sorry. The families of our fallen soldiers deserve better than this. Trump is a heartless bastard and should never be allowed to speak to another widow.
