Donald Trump assailed the black NFL players who took a knee during the national anthem. Trump said that the owner should “get that son of a bitch” off the field, referring to Colin Kaepernick.
Much debate has ensued. The focus of the coverage has been about the Black players protesting during the national anthem. Some players and fans have supported the protesters and others, including some owners, have threatened to fire anyone kneeling during the anthem. Instead, owners like Jerry Jones, have knelt with his players BEFORE the anthem.
However the most outrageous thing Trump said about the NFL seems to have been lost in the rush to suggest racism associated with taking a knee. The even more despicable racists remarks were Trump glorifying the violence on the field. Trump said:
“Today if you hit too hard, you hit too hard, 15 yards, throw him out of the game.”
“Two guys, (demonstrating with his fists), just beautiful tackle , boom, 15 yards, the referee gets on television, his wife is sitting at home, she’s so proud of him, they are ruining the game! They are ruining the game.”
“That’s what they want to do. They want to hit.”
“Not the same game anymore.”
Trump is clearly a fan of the “beautiful tackle.” No doubt that he thinks the tackle is “beautiful” because it is usually a Black player who suffers from the tackle. In America only 13% of the population is Black. However 70% of NFL players are Black. “Players” have died “playing” football.
This is a video of the 10 Hardest Football hits that resulted in knockouts.
Not surprisingly, 9 of the 10 players who were knocked out were Black. In Trump’s mind these are “beautiful” tackles.
The NFL has tried to prevent these dangerous hits and the resulting in CTE. Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) is a degenerative brain disease found in athletes, military veterans, and others with a history of repetitive brain trauma.
The NFL adopted a ban on the ball carrier initiating contact with the crown of his helmet in the open field or by a defender while making a tackle. The NFL was trying to limit or avoid concussions. The NFL was trying to prevent players from using their helmets as weapons.
