Trump did not write:
However he came very close. In the Art of the Deal he did write:
“The final key to the way I promote is bravado. I play to people’s fantasies. People may not always think big themselves, but they can still get very excited by those who do. That’s why a little hyperbole never hurts. People want to believe something is the biggest and the greatest and the most spectacular.
I call it truthful hyperbole. It’s an innocent form of exaggeration — and a very effective form of promotion.”
This photo was taken four days ago at the rally Trump held in Harrisburg Pennsylvania. Obviously there are seats open. The reporter who took these pictures did so during Trump’s speech, not while people were still coming in.
This is the speech of Trump at the rally. He said in the speech, at 8:30 in the tape, that he broke the “all time record for this arena.” Trump explained that there were people left outside trying to get in.
Obviously Trump’s statements were not true. The rally was not a capacity crowd. People were not left standing outside.
Trump has a history of overstating the crowds at his events. After photos revealed relatively small crowds at his inauguration, for example, spokespeople from the Trump administration countered that Trump actually had the biggest inaugural event in history and accused the media of lying. Trump officials went so far as to tell the National Park Service to stop tweeting out photos of the National Mall that revealed the sparse crowd.
Here’s the facts. The Trump rally was held in the PA Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in the New Holland Arena in Harrisburg. The largest hall seats 7318 people. By way of comparison the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, where the Mavericks play has 19,200 seats, almost three times as many seats as found in the PA Farm Show Complex. The empty seats in the photograph demonstrate that he didn’t even have 7000 people in attendance.
Donald Trump is the President. It doesn’t really matter how big his crowds are now. He’s already President. What matters is that he is such a narcissist that he has to lie about the size of the crowds he draws. He could have said that the rally drew thousands of supporters, and that would have been a true statement. However he doesn’t seem to be capable of telling the truth about the Yuge crowds he draws.
