Protecting America from Donald Trump

Today is December 19th.  It will be the day that the members of the electoral college cast their votes.  Traditionally, they have always voted in keeping with the outcome of the election in their states.  Regardless of the popular vote, each electoral vote has traditionally been consistent with the electoral votes of the states.  The hope of many is that today will be different.  At least one Republican from Texas has declared that he will NOT cast his vote for Trump, even though Texas voted Republican in the November election.  Here is the full letter of the elector.

Fifteen years ago, I swore an oath to defend my country and Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. On Dec. 19, I will do it again.

Clinton actually won the popular vote by about 3 million — making Trump the worst-performing winner in the popular vote since 1876.  However this isn’t about who won the popular vote.  Al Gore won the popular vote in the 2004 election, and nobody suggested that Bush was unfit to be the President.  However Trump is unfit.  The media, and this blog have documented the repeated remarks of Trump that demonstrate he is unfit, and perhaps mentally unstable.

Today is not the last chance we have to keep Trump from becoming President.  Under federal law, each elector must today sign six copies certifying their votes for president and vice president.  Two ballots go to the National Archives. One goes to the president of the Senate. Two go to their state’s chief elections officer. And one goes to a local judge.  Then there is one last step before the election is complete.  On January 6, Congress has to officially count the electoral votes. Vice President Joe Biden will preside over the count.  Lawmakers can technically object — in writing, with objections signed by at least one House and one Senate member — to individual electoral votes or entire states’ results. If the House and Senate support that objection, the vote or votes in question are thrown out. While that has never happened, we have never elected such a bigoted, misogynistic, mentally unstable narcissist as Donald Trump.  We have never had proof that a foreign government intervened with a Presidential election, as we have this year.
The CIA has confirmed that hacking took place.  The CIA has determined that Russian hackers breached GOP individuals and organizations prior to the election.  There is also evidence that entities connected to the Russian government were bankrolling “troll farms” that spread fake news about Clinton. Investigators also found digital footprints of individuals tied to the Russian government who had been on intelligence agencies radar before, as was acknowledged when the intelligence agency put out a public statement in October.
Thus every citizen should contact every state Congressperson and Senator and plead our case.  We as citizens can still protect our country from the domestic threat that the President-Elect represents.  Hold every member of the House and Senate to their oath required by the US Constitution.
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”
— U.S. Constitution, Article VI, clause 3
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”

Trump is a domestic enemy and the members of the House and Senate, whether Republican or Democrat, are bound by their oath to protect the United States.  Hold them accountable to we the people!

  1. This year has been such a nightmare. As more info is coming out it is clear Hil did not have a chance. There were too many forces against her. Now we have a total fool who will be prez. Wonder how long it will take for him to get us into a war. That is not even taking into consideration the extreme views of the people he will appoint who will create harm for so many people.

From the sound of things, it will be Mike Pence marching us into war because Trump will be too busy making America great again. If pre-election stories are to be believed about Trump’s kids offering Pence control over domestic and foreign policy (while the Twitternut uses his small hands to rant and denigrate others), Pence will be the de facto president, though he was not elected.
This loony notion of the job of president, coupled with Trump’s 9-to-5 mentality about the job definitely present the opportunity for a calamitous commitment to war or a pseudo-war.
I’m just trying to puzzle out how long it will take the GOP to figure out how dangerous this despot is. By the time he finishes his first term (or is impeached), America sure won’t be the democratic republic he inherited.

  2. This year and last will go down as hurtful, personal and painful. I am lost for words. I wish all well and may your Christmas and holidays be filled with hope and good health.

  3. Malia –
As a Texan, you will appreciate that I am reading Molly Ivens’ book, “Who Let the Dogs In.” One of her short chapters – – “The Chihuahua” (AKA Ross Perot) — is uncannily appropriate right now. Remove Perot’s name and replace his with Trump’s name and you have a 2016 equivalent of the wacka-wacka of the early 90s.
