Whatever you thought about the outcome of the 2016 election, it was clear that Trump’s popularity was the direct result of his appeal as a person running for office who had never held elected office. Voters were so frustrated that they were willing to take a chance on a person who was an admitted racist, bigot, and misogynist, if it meant that someone would run the country who was not beholden to any political party, to any politicians, or any special interests. However Trump’s selection of his cabinet, indicates that his administration is going to be full of traditional politicians. He has already tapped the previous head of the Republican Party, Reince Priebus, as his chief of staff. There is no more important position than chief of staff, and there is nobody more symbolic of politics as usual than Reince Priebus.
Now Trump has interviewed Mitt Romney for consideration as his Secretary of State. Remember what Trump said during the campaign about Romney? Trump describedRomeny as a “failed candidate” and a choke artist.
Trump has now interviewed Romney and is considering him for the position as his Secretary of State. Mike Huckabee said that Mitt Romney should have apologized to President-elect Donald Trump in their meeting in New Jersey and, that if Trump were to offer the former Massachusetts governor a Cabinet post, it “would be an insult to the voters.” Yet it appears that is precisely what Trump is contemplating.
The only surprise would be if he actually tapped Sarah Palin for Secretary of the Interior as she has not been a politician for over 7 years.
